About The Event

November draws to a close and the darkness is fully fledged.  It surrounds us with its chill blanket of pitch.  The full moon offers that much needed night light to stir the darkness into softness and allow reflections upon how far we've come; what has been gained and what can now fall silently away into the abyss of the night.

This particular moon has a few different names established by ancient cultures:  Beaver Moon; Frost Moon and Mourning Moon.  The brilliance of the effulgent moon at her fullest point plunges us into the season of will and water in the traditional chinese 5 elements system; a system of checks and balances which through the ancient meridian system helps guide us to find balance.

Our yin practice will focus on this watery theme as we imagine the beavers building their dams to hold back the flow; the crystalline frosts decorating an early morning landscape and the feminine qualities of the full moon illuminating our capacity for gratitude, forgiveness and compassion.

Yin yoga is a slow, yielding form of yoga arising from the Daoist (or Taoist) practice.  Yin yoga targets the deeper yin tissues, ligaments, tendons, bone and fascia and offers adaptable poses to suit individual skeletal differences, which are then held for a few minutes or more with the intension of allowing those deeper tissues to receive the benefits.  This slow practice allows the quiet of meditational respose to seep in the time spent commiting to stillness the curious awareness of the mind's fluctuations and altering sensations can be observed.

Yoga nidra is the ancient technique of yogic sleep.  It offers the practioner the opportunity to be guided into a state of deep rest whilst remaining awake and alert allowing the subconscious mind to rise to the surface as the body rests.   40 minutes of yoga nidra is suggested to be equivalent to 3-4 hours sleep.   The practice is taken lying on the back using props to ensure the body is supported and at ease. Then simply remain present to the healing effects of this deeply nourishing recalibration as you are guided gently into rest.

And on awakening there will be time to enjoy a steaming blend of ethically and sustainably sourced cacao together with vegan cookies  before you float home under the tender beams of the full moon smiling down upon you.
