Hatha Yoga Flow
A light hearted, gently flowing class to start your week, (online and in person classes available) . Each class uses a simple intention or theme, and features alignment focussed asana (physical poses) and simple pranayama (breath practices), variations are offered to suit every level. Expect slightly longer holds in poses (typically 5 breaths), to enable you to refine alignment, cultivate steadiness and ease and really connect to the anchor of the breath.
(Suitable for all levels of age and ability, modifications and props used to ensure everyone can participate fully.)
Gentle Beginners Yoga - available at Tickenham Village Hall & Yatton Junior School
This class is ideal for complete beginners or those looking to return to yoga after a break and seeking a gentle class. The focus falls on basic poses and simple flows with emphasis on correct, healthy alignment. You will be guided through sequences designed to develop strength, flexibility and calm - the class ends with a restorative savasana - relaxation.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa is made up of two sanskirt words, nyasa meaning to place and vi meaning special. In this style of yoga creative flowing sequences are linked with the breathe. The more energetic practice warms, strengthens and extends the body, effectively releasing tension and creating space as we head towards a 'peak pose'. We close by surrendering to a deliciously restorative savasana.
(Alternative poses and modifications with suitable props and assists are offered throughout however this class may not be suitable for complete beginners or those dealing with injuries - if unsure please contact me to discuss.)
Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra and Gong Bath
Yin poses are floor based stretches held for 3-5 minutes which target the fascia (connective tissue, bones, ligaments, tendons and joint capsules. ) The fascial web that sheaths our muscles and organs and provides the scaffolding in the body can be the site of physical restriction and imbalances which also affect our energy flow which impacts on how we move and feel. A yin practice lets us climb inside, find stillness to experience the moment. It is the perfect preparation for Yoga Nidra, literally, yogic sleep. It is said that 20 minutes of Yoga Nidra can be the equivalent of 4 hours sleep due to the deep state of relaxation created. The last 5 minutes of class you will rest in this hypnagogic state whilst bathed in meditative gong sound waves. This beautiful instrument has been used for thousands of years as the vibrations created reduce stress and promote healing. Expect to sleep like a baby after this class!
Yin-spire & Pranayama **New Class* your perfect Sunday evening chill!**
An alchemical blend of acu-yin yoga, inspired by Jo Phee and pranayama. The yin portion uses tapping and acupressure points to stimulate energy flow in the meridian channels for self care and incorporates specific breath practices from traditional Indian, Tibetan and Chinese philosophies.
This is an all levels class which is primarily mat based - props are useful for the yin section: bolster, bricks, blocks, blankets, yoga belt or equivalent household items: cushions, books, scarf etc.
Aerial/ Anti Gravity Wall Yoga & Relaxation
A form of aerial yoga using fabric hammocks suspended from the wall. Rather than being a new craze or attempt to make yoga fun and fashionable, the practice of using ropes and slings to develop and refine alignment and aid healing was first discovered by BKS Iyengar, one of the founding fathers of modern yoga and the teacher who developed the props we now take for granted! Limited to a maximum of 2 participants. If you are booking for 1 then YA will endeavour to co-ordinate with another yogi. In the event this is not possible your booking will be cancelled and a full refund issued to the card you paid with.
The following classes will return to the timetable in the future.
Themed Hatha Flow Yoga (Deity Invocation)
Looking for something a bit different? Evoking the archetypal energies of the Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu Pantheon and weaving their mythical stories into our yoga practice creates a really special class and allows us to deepen awareness of the qualities the deities represent within ourselves. A different theme is introduced every 30 or so days, aligning with the moon's sequence. The class combines storytelling, pranayama, asana, mudra, kundalini kriyas, mantra and and guided meditation.
(Suitable for all levels, alternative poses and modifications will be offered to enable everyone to enjoy and fully benefit from the class.)
Yin Yang Yoga
We start slow, exploring the real essence of Yin with a specific intention to apply stress to a targetted area of the body. Then to balance the stress we strengthen and warm the body from the inside out with creative variations of suraya namaskar (sun salutations). In the final segment of the class we settle back down onto the ground with shorter held yin poses and pranayama before our final savasana. This class will leave you feeling balanced and grounded, whole and elevated.
Shiva Shakti Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Taking inspiration from the ultimate union of Shiva and Shakti, the masculine and feminine energies are reunited in this weekend class. Energetic sequences fuel our inner fire, creating heat in the body, building strength & stamina and leading to a peak pose. The path home flows with Shakti's luminous softness. Deeper stretches, heart opening asana and restorative pranayama.
Time is allocated in the second part of the class to focus more deeply on a specific asana or pranayama. Exploring various techniques this is an opportunity to advance your practice with the help of assists and props to facilitate the journey.
A releasing savasana or yoga nidra closes the class.
(This class is a little more challenging and therefore only suitable for those with some yoga experience. As with the Themed Class expect to encounter asana, pranayama, mudra, mantra and occasionally simple kriyas.)
