Service Description
This class is ideal if you are new to yoga; looking to return to your practice; or dealing with an injury, issue or limitation and require something which brings ease and alignment on a physical and mental level. Each class is gently guided, infused with genuine warmth and absolute inclusivity - you will be endlessly encouraged to do just as much or as little as feels appropriate on any given day and to really tune into your body and breath. The focus falls primarily on basic poses; both seated and standing and incorporates shorter flows with an emphasis on appropriate, healthy individual alignment best suited to the practitioners needs and making use of yoga props as well as chairs and walls - there is the also the choice to receive hands on assists where appropriate. In celebration of how unique each of us is, you'll be reminded regularly soften the edges around the 'shoulds' and relinqish attachment to the sense of separation we inevitably feel from time to time. When we have to honour our own unique biology and biography we are aligning to the first of the great sage Patanjali's 8 fold path to yoga - Ahimsa, non harming. Classes are framed with a monthly dharmic theme and each one incorporates asana (poses); pranayama (breathworth); meditation & contextualised philosophy - nothing heavy and always relevant to our contemporary lives. The asana practice is intended to develop strength, build bone density and create adaptable muscle efficiency as well as encouraging appropriate range of movement through a gradual increase in flexibility. Uniting the physical to the subtle, the breath work will enable you to develop awareness of the state of your own autonomic nervous system. Breath is a super power and it offers you to the tools to manage and alter how you feel and respond to situations - not only on the mat but also when you go back out into the world. We close with an opportunity for the body and mind to assimilate the practice and absorb all the benefits during the delightful period of relaxation - savasana.
