Service Description

This unique 75 minute class utilises a fabric hammock as an inviting prop to support the body, facilitate decompression and expand ROM (range of movement) in a gentle and individually appropriate way. The hammocks are made of resilient fabric with a slight stretch. They alter the effects of gravity through their suspending function and add another dimension to a yoga practice - one which is difficult to achieve on the mat. BKS Iyengar, one of the founding fathers of 'modern' yoga is credited with designing most of the yoga props we use today. He also used a series of straps, ropes and belts to facilitate access to postures - the hammocks perform much the same function in a more esoteric way. This class makes use of both wall and ceiling hammocks to support the exploration of alignment in familiar poses such as downward facing dog (adho mukha svanasana); facilitates the possibility of inversions - which can be helpful if there are physical restrictions to turning upside down and enhance flexibility - in an individually appropriate way. This class culminates in floating savasana while the mesmerising sound of gong, singing bowl symphony, koshi chimes and rainmaker carry you into deep effortless rest. The benefits of sound healing include: lowers heart rate and blood pressure; encourages deep relaxation; awakens, aligns, and balances energy.
