Sat, 25 Feb

Menopause is a normal, organic part of a women's life, marking the cessation of her monthly cycle and her journey into the post reproductive stage of life. This is a transition which affects women on a physical, social, mental, psychological and spiritual level and a new narrative needs to be told.

About The Event
'Femominal', yes it's a made up word (trade mark pending) which came tumbling to mind during the heat of a Winter's night flush! It endeavours to encompass 'the menopause' as a uniquely feminine journey, an unfolding cycle of transition into the later stages of life. It contains OM synonomous with the constant cycle of birth, death and rebirth. The menopause has a rhythm: a beginning (peri menopause), a middle (menopause) and an end (post menopause) but the hormonal dance can be chaotic, turbulent and tricky to navigate. Each woman's journey is as individual as her fingerprint and that in itself can sometimes make it seem like a lonely journey.
Amidst the struggles there is the opportunity to deepen self knowing which may help each woman individually navigate an unmapped path. Collectively, through open, non-judgmental discussion, research, the sharing of knowlege and cultivation of awareness we can begin to reframe the menopause and disseminate truths so vitally important for the world now. Why? Because many of us will spend a third of our life post menopause! There still remains stigma around the subject; confusion and taboo. All women regardless of the menopause stage and age they're in (and those poised to encounter it) deserve to be empowered with the necessary understanding and support so they are not just surviving this life shift but actually thriving in the phenomenal power and wisdom it can offer.
There are well over 30 different symptoms currently recognised as being directly related to the menopause - many more are being identified as further research is published. This workshop focuses specifically on anxiety and overwhelm, fatigue and brain fog and the phase of menopause itself - defined as the 12 month anniversary of the last menstrual cycle. However you do not have to be in this phase to gain valuable insights and to benefit from this offering which recognises that these symptoms may arise and create substantial challenges throughout the entire menopause transition.
The yoga offered in this context is specifically tailored to ameliorate symptoms associated with the experience of hot flushes, night sweats and 'meno-rage', symptoms most often associated with peri-menopause. It offers useful tools through a physical practice, restorative poses, breathwork and meditation. Peri-menopause is a critical window for health and wellbeing and as such offers an opportunity to prepare, without pathologising, for the transition.
This is not a standard yoga class labelling itself as menopause yoga! The specific practice is offered by an experienced yoga teacher with well over 600+ hours of training received from some of the world's most highly regarded teachers and a graduate of Petra Coveney's Menopause Yoga teacher training.
