About The Event
Aerial yoga offers another route by which to explore and experience the joys of yoga.
Initially used by BKS Iyengar in the form of ropes and slings suspended from walls and ceiling beams, aerial yoga has evolved into the form we now know which uses a fabric hammock offering a more comfortable experience in which can to derive many of the same benefits Iyengar realised.
The hammock acts as both a gravity reducing support to assist access into and out of certain poses & provides confidence for more advanced poses such as inversions. It can also increase range of movement; improve proprioceptive awareness through it's direct connection to the fascia of the body as well as enhancing balance, strength and stability. Oh and it's also different, playful and a lot of fun!
In this introduction to aerial yoga, both wall and ceiling hammocks will be used each offering a slightly different experience. Each participant will be assigned your own hammock and shown how to alter it's height and ensure it is secured to safely to the fixings. Crash mats will also be in place as an added level of safety. You will be guided though poses suited to you ability and confidence level with plenty of variations and options depending on how far you feel confident in your exploration.
The session culimates with a deliciously restorative relaxation. As you climb inside the cocoon of the hammock, (all of which will offer a clear view of the sky above) exhale into rest, let go, lie back and enjoy the embrace of fabric yielding and melding to the shape of your body to the point that after a few minutes it may begin to feels like a second skin, literally breathing with you.
